Wirral South MP, Ben Chapman, has officially opened the Children's Centre at Grove Street Primary School in New Ferry. He was also given a tour of the Smiley Centre which caters for the Wraparound provision for 2 year old children, followed by a special assembly in which he took part in a Q and A session. It ended with the children singing songs.
At the Children's Centre, Mr Chapman cut a ribbon to mark its opening, before meeting staff and being given a tour.
Mr Chapman commented: "I was delighted to be asked to do the opening. The Children's Centre offers great support to both children and their parents and it runs a range of activities from Mondays to Fridays. Furthermore, Grove Street Primary is an excellent school. It provides the children with many opportunities and is a credit to the hard work of the teachers, governors and children. It is the closest school to my office and, along with the Children's Centre, it is integral to the community of New Ferry".
Grove Street Primary School Headteacher, Na'amat Little, said: "It is always a pleasure having Ben Chapman at Grove Street Primary, as he is not only our MP but also a friend of Grove Street. Ben has supported the school in many of its social activities and has helped me personally with enquiries regarding Government initiatives. The Children's Centre is a great asset to the school and to the community, especially as it is on school premises."
Said Helen Richards, Children's Centre Manager: ‘We're delighted to be open for business at New Ferry Children's Centre. We now have children's centres in all areas of Wirral - New Ferry's is the 19th to open. It will provide a one-stop-shop for advice and support for children under five and their families on a range of services including early learning and play, training and employment, and child and family health. Our message to families in New Ferry is: ‘Come in and see what's on offer - we'd love to see you'!"
